What’s that? – Oh right, another Tag!

17 Sep

It’s 4 am and I can’t go back to sleep again so I thought it’s time to answer some questions. Simon from Onwindydays tagged me with his 11 questions and I’m more than happy to answer them. We’ll see though how good it goes. Let the games begin!

First of all we have our obvious statement about rules. It’s like when the police arrests you and explains you you’re right to remain silent. Sorry for that, may have watched too many cop shows recently :D

1. I must post the rules.
2. I must answer the questions the tagger listed for me (since I got tagged more than once, this isn’t going to be a nice pointy eleven).
3. I must create (or reuse) 11 questions for those I tag.
4. I must tag 11 people.
5. I must let them know they’ve been tagged.

1. What is your favorite quote, who is it from, and why?

There are so many great quotes out there, some make me laugh some make me think…it’s hard to pick a favourite but you asked for one so here it comes:

“Be who your are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”

I don’t know who said it, it’s sometimes attributed to Dr. Suess but according to the interwebs it’s not from him so I’ll go with anonymous. First I wanted to go with this quote:

“Sing like no one’s listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like nobody’s watching, and live like its heaven on earth.” [Mark Twain]

but then I remembered I liked the other one even more.

2. Which song can bring you to tears or reminds you of your childhood?

I don’t think there is a special song that brings me to tears. However there is a song I always have to think of when I think of my childhood. Janet Jackson – Whoops Now. Please don’t ask me why. I just remember it was playing a lot on the radio when I was small and I liked singing along to it even though I had no clue as to what I was singing :D

3. What is one thing that keeps you going day in and day out?

The hope that tomorrow will be different, better.

4. Why did you start blogging?

This is gonna be a bit embarrassing…because the fictitious daughter of Temperance Brennan in Kathy Reichs’ Bones-books had one and I liked the thought of it.

5. Is there one thing that you regret not doing in the past? If so, would you be willing to share what that was on here?

Not regret but really wonder and don’t understand would be more accurate so I’ll go with this one here. How could I seriously not see that I’m more interested in women than men? In retrospect it all seems so clear that it’s a miracle it took me this long.

6. What is one thing that you saw that restored your faith in the human race?

Oh boy. What makes you think that I have faith in the human race to begin with?

7. Rain or Sun?

Here comes my favourite answer again when it comes to picking between two things – both. Let me explain. I really love both. What’s better than a sunny spring day you get to spend outside. The air is warm but not too hot, birds are chirping… The sky is an overwhelming shade of pure blue and you can’t take away your eyes from the colours you’re seeing. Blue sky, green forests, cherry blossoms and so on. BUT, of course you would get bored to death and numb to this sort of beauty if you were exposed to it all forever so you need rainy days. Days on which you like to stay in and listen to the pounding raindrops on the roof, feel another way of natures force.

I hope I got my point across – you can’t really enjoy one thing without having the other. What makes it awesome is the change between them. Without it, there would be no life. That being said, I’m also one to complain when it rains too much or gets to hot. I guess I’m never truly satisfied :D

8. What movie had the most impact on you? (A movie that just really made you challenge your view on anything)

First of all I’m more of a series kinda gal. In which way I’d go with ‘The West Wing’

Then I could name a book, ‘Sing You Home’ by Jodi Picoult because it made me realise things about myself.

But a movie…I’m at a loss. The only one I can think of is ‘Temple Grandin’ but it didn’t really challenge my way of thinking. It was a real masterpiece though.

9. List five words that describe your character.

Honest. Introvert. Bossy. Reluctant. Insecure.

10. What is your greatest fear?

Not being loved and not loving enough. In a way I’ve been alone my whole life. Don’t get me wrong, I have amazing friends ( I’m seeing this now, not that I wasn’t aware of it earlier) but there’s still something missing. I’m tired of always falling asleep at night alone, of waking up alone. I’m a hopeless romantic without an idea how to put herself out there.

11. What do you ultimately want to accomplish in the days to come?

Is world domination a bit too straight forward? Hmm?! At the moment I don’t really have any long term goals except not grow old alone. I’m so used to trying to get by one day at a time that I’m not sure anymore. I have to re-callibrate, figure out what I want to do. There are random things I want to achieve but I’m not realistically pursuing them, like writing a novel, singing a solo on a big stage and not embarrass myself while doing so, landing a bigger role I get to really act and prove to myself that I can in fact act and having a big family. Like I said, random stuff.

That’s it folks. I won’t tag 11 other people cause I did so not long ago. TTYL

Another Day, Another Game

11 Aug

People, people, gather around cause I’ve been tagged again. It’s been a while and it’s easier than coming up with something witty and interesting on my own. So, today I will be answering the 11 questions posted by 2CagedBirds.

The Rules, ’cause everything has rules and I’m a follower, go like this:

1.  You must post the rules.
2.  Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
3.  Create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
4.  Tag eleven people with a link to your post.
5.  Let them know they’ve been tagged.

Now onto the questions…

1.  Who was your first crush, and what was so special about him/her?

I’m not entirely sure if he was my first crush but I cannot remember anyone else and I always felt very strongly about him, from the moment we met in school. I still thank my german lit teacher for seating him next to me. We never were a real couple but he turned out to become my best friend which is so much better since it would  never have worked out between the two of us.

2.  What “guilty pleasure” do you have?  I want the one you’d be embarrassed to admit to your friends.

I don’t know what to answer. There aren’t a lot of things I like to do but am ashamed of. After looking up ‘guilty pleasure‘ on Wikipedia I am not smarter. Maybe the 3 days which I ate a bag of potato chips each. 3 bags in 3 days…I know it’s not healthy and the calories and all but they just taste so good. But am I embarrassed to admit this? No!

3.  What is one thing you suck at that you wish you could do perfectly?

Grammar and punctuation. I really suck at it. And if I could be less lazy and more productive it would be a nice change as well.

4.  Who is your hero?

Hero is maybe an odd word for it but I’m going with my grandma on this one. I was partially raised by her cause I spent every day my mom was at work at her place. She helped me with my homework, drove me to and from tennis, school and track. She taught me a lot about valuing money. I was not always happy with her butting her nose into my life and she as well as mom used to play me against each other, which I hated but other than that she amazes me because she is so strong. My grandpa got sick very early and died even before I got into school so she’s been on her own for nearly 20 years now. And even in her late 70s, she still doesn’t get to rest because she has to help me take care of her sick child and my mother. I know it is so hard on her which breaks my heart.

5.  What is one unexpected thing you find sexy about another person?

Um, no clue?!!! Does it need to be one thing on one special person or just in general? But as you’re awaiting an answer, I’ll be going with … curly long hair…I know this one girl, her hair just looks so nice. It’s curly like my own but longer and… yes, I think shiny wavy hair is sexy. Shut up!

6.  If you were stuck watching 3 movies for the rest of your life, what would they be?

First of all, let me tell you I’m actually more of a series kinda girl. I enjoy watching movies but they don’t come close to my passion for Bones, Gilmore Girls, The West Wing, 30 Rock and so on. If I had to go with the movies though I would choose the Harry Potter Saga, the old Star Wars Trilogy and Casablanca. I know I’m cheating on this but I can’t help myself.

7.  What is your favorite book?

Again with the choosing thing. This is really hard for a book-lover like myself!! Anyways, I’m going with ‘Leaving Unknown’ by Kerry Reichs (The Good Luck Girl in the UK) because I won’t mind reading it over and over again. A close runner up for that top spot would be ‘The Monsters of Templeton’ by Lauren Groff. I love it. Lauren also wrote a nice volume of short stories, which coming from me, is a HUGE compliment since I’m not too into short stories.

8.  Biggest pet peeve?

I have a lot of them but maybe matching clothes like a tracksuit is one top candidate. But there is a lot more where that came from, like people that think speed limits do not apply to them, people who drive like they’re asleep, students who ask questions about stuff the teacher or prof just answered a minute ago…do I need to go on?!

9.  Chocolate chip-cookies:  nuts or no nuts?

Definitely no nuts. I dislike nuts, strongly dislike them. There is one sort of candy in Germany and I love it but it has a whole hazelnut in the middle which I personally find disgusting. So what does little Miss Upton do? She eats the pieces of candy around the nut and places the nut back into the wrapper it came from. It’s a bit disgusting, I admit to that but why do they need to put a nut inside in the first place? This is really not my fault. Then again, I eat peanuts…I guess it depends on the context and the kind of nut. #crazy

10.  What was your favorite childhood toy?

I loved my doll Charlotte which I nicknamed Scha-Scha. And then I had a backpack full of detective stuff, like brushes, evidence bags, a magnifying glass, survival handbook, swiss army knife…The backpack itself was ugly cause it was pink…but I loved running around, pretending to investigate stuff.

11.  What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about you?

Probably that I’m gay because it would keep me from having to tell each and every one of the people I know sooner or later. Well, I don’t really plan on doing so but if I could send out an instant mental message to everyone and let them know it would be nice I guess.

Oh boy, here I thought answering the questions was the hard part but now I have to come up with 11 questions on my own? Phew.

1. What’s the place or country you would want to visit the most if you could just pack your bags and go?
2. What do a lot of people assume about you which is not true at all?
3. What is your favourite number?
4. Do you use hand sanitisers when they are provided?
5. What was the first concert you ever went to see?
6. Calling or texting/IMing?
7. What is your favourite TV show?
8. How old were you when you moved away from your parent(s)?
9. What is your pen of choice?
10. Your best childhood memory?
11. What would be your dream profession if your not already working it?

I won’t be tagging 11 people but here are my choices anyway: Addie from Betwixt and Between, This Labyrinth I Roam for purely selfish reasons ’cause I want her to post again :D, Charleen, NoviaHoneyImALesbian and Lauren at thoughtsonmybookshelf. Feel free to answer these questions even if I haven’t tagged you :)

I’ve been tagged!

23 Feb

Imagine my surprise when I got the mail telling me that one of my posts was re-blogged and tagged. This sounds pathetic, I know, but as I stated in my earlier post, there’s almost nobody out there reading my blog. So this was really something!

The person who tagged me is Addie from Betwixt and Between, thanks again for it! It’s an attempt to get to know me better, because I have to answer 11 questions, tag 11 other bloggers to do the same.

Here are the rules:

  1. You must post the rules.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
  3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
  4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

I understand that the whole “tagging other blogs”-thing is the essence of this little game and I’ve been really happy (see above) that Addie tagged me for this, though I made up my mind not to tag other blogs. The reason is, I am afraid to be considered spam, because it looks a little bit like a blog-version of a chain letter. I have not been very active in the WordPress community so far, mostly due to lack of time. Also, like Jules on Cougar Towns I am a people pleaser. Big time! I hate being inconvenient for others or go on their nerves. That’s why I decided against tagging others and the fact that there are like 4-5 blogs that follow mine and about ten which I follow myself. Again, I am not oblivious to the fact that this sounds pathetic, I know it!

And now on to the questions Addie wants to know about me, and which I am happy to answer:

1. What is the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked?

All I can come up with at the moment is, are you over 16 years old? – This happened when I gave the not-so-nice-lady my prescription for an insole. My date of birth is printed on the damn prescription and I was like 21 or 22 at that time.

2. Given the choice of time travel, would you go back in time or forward?

Both! But since I have to choose, I would say forward. I’m constantly wondering where my life is headed and whether I’m doing the right things, so forward sounds good to me!

3. What is your favorite late-night snack?

Potato chips all the way! What can I say? I’m addicted!

4. Tell us your weirdest dream.

I’m not sure if you want to know about the dreams I have while sleeping or where I would like to see myself in the future, so I’ll answer both.

The sleeping one’s first: Let me begin by telling you that I dream a lot of crap at most times and I forget about it a lot. Recurring crappy dreams are though, that some fake person in my dream gets murdered, or other people try to kill me. The worst one must haven been, when some crazy killer tried to take my life and I could only move on slow motion. Please don’t get me wrong, in normal life there are no shady characters out to get me, I simply enjoy reading crime novels, although told dream happened after a romantic novel. Last night I also had a pretty weird dream, and it’s not about murder, so I tell it too. I had a food fight with a person and we were throwing pieces of pineapple. Yes, pineapple, and it was gross and a total mess to clean up, and after winning, I almost kissed a friend who was fighting with me.

My weirdest dream about what I dream for myself must be World Domination!! Or this is just the aftermath of the two lost rounds of Risk from last night, who knows.

5. Describe the perfect date.

The perfect date for me is having a good meal (food is very important to me^^) and afterwards taking a walk through the cloudless night.

6. What song is stuck in your head?

There’s always music playing in my head, and it’s usually the last song I heard so while I write this, it is Rolling in the Deep by Adele, because I was on Facebook recently and a friend posted a video of the song.

While I read Addie answering her questions it was Palm of your hand by Ingrid Michaelson. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Death Cab for Cutie lately, so they are constantly with me as well.

7. What is the best way to develop a positive attitude?

As said in the previous answer, I like music and in order to get into a good mood I like to sing real loud to any song I feel like at that moment. A day without singing is a lost day for me. If singing doesn’t help, a good run usually does.

8. If you could invite four people-living or dead- to a dinner party, who would they be?

My deceased grand-pa, Kathy Reichs, Tina Fey and Ellen DeGeneres.

9. Who is your look-alike?

German ex-national women soccer player Birgit Prinz, I guess…or that’s what I heard several times at least.

10. What is your answering machine away message? If you don’t have one, you can make it up!

Thank you for calling, unfortunately I am either to lazy to get up, I saw your number and don’t want to talk to you or I’m doing something way more exciting than answering my own phone. Leave a message and find out if I call you back. Bye.

11. It’s said that you learn something new every day. What did you learn today?

I learned that I really dislike teenagers getting married, or couples in their early twenties. How can they be sure, that they’ve found their partner for the rest of their lives so early? Maybe there’s a little bit of jealousy involved, I’m not sure.

That’s it. I’m done with my 11 questions and it took me longer than anticipated to answer them. If you took the time to read my answers, you now know 11 things more about me then you previously did. I hope you enjoyed the ride.

See ya!
